Old Wounds Smarting

Do the old wounds still smart
his hands when innocence is stolen?
Do they ache in Heaven before
the Father, as he intercedes for those
who've yet to know him
or abide in him
or weep tears for the oppressed
and oppressor alike—
Cain slaying Abel,
the Prodigal's brother,
or Saul riding to Damascus,
eyes open, heart-blind.
And do I in him, abiding,
still feel at every stumble
the old wounds smarting but satisfying
the price of all my sins
like their’s,
the ones who know not yet what they do.
